And once again...Phil has an oh s*%#@ moment, realizes that BF didn't think things through and has screwed the pooch...and tidies it up with a retraction and fiction about "upcoming books". Sigh....
Das Book and Bunker Rules Q&A Das Book includes the tidied-up bunker rules from the forth-coming Earth and Steel book in the new D-Day compilations. We wanted everyone to have access to the tidied-up rules, so we’ve made them into a pdf that you can download.
We wrote these to bring all of the different types of bunkers that have evolved over the years into one coherent whole and to clarify a few bits and pieces. The revised rules now cover pillboxes (bunkers from the rulebook), nests (open-topped bunkers from various battle books), and turret bunkers like the French tank turrets emplaced on the Normandy beaches. Unfortunately, because the Earth and Steel book isn’t out yet, as well as clearing up some old questions the revisions have raised some new ones.
Question: On page 47 of Das Book under Defensive Battle it says, "In a mission that uses the Defensive Battle special rule, a force containing Bunkers will always be the defender, even against another force that would normally defend. If both forces have Bunkers, then they dice off to see who attacks as normal." Does this apply to existing books without this rule?Answer: The answer is no. Your existing book continues on as before. New books like Earth and Steel have this rule as a general rule and are designed with it in mind.
Question: On page 47 of Das Book under Bunker Deployment it says, "All the Bunkers in a force count as a platoon deployed on table when determining how many platoons must be held in Reserve." Does this apply to existing books without this rule?Answer: Once again, the answer is no. Your existing book continues on as before.
Question: On page 50 of Das Book under Victory Points it says, "If a player destroys all of the bunkers on the table, the count as having destroyed an additional enemy platoon when calculating victory points." Does this apply to existing books without this rule?Answer: And once again, the answer is no. Your existing book continues on as before.
Most of the rest of the rules are clarifications to the existing rules, or in the case of turret bunkers, new rules to handle a new situation. Using the revised rules won’t change anything, but will hopefully make it easier to use the existing bunker rules.Happy gaming,Phil
