I just had an odd thought regarding a question someone asked me months ago. They asked why the jump from a 3+ to 4+ to hit in DF was not as big a deal as the jump from 4+ to 5+. At the time I didnt have a way to explain it but for some reason it just clicked (or I am so tired I am going to make a fool of myself one).
When your being hit on a 3+ then 8 dice of DF should see you pinned. 3+ is a 66% chance of a hit on each dice so 2 of three will hit on average. So 6 results in 4 hits and 8 gives you 5.
If your being hit on a 4+ then you need 10 dice to get the averages to work out for you. 4+ is a 50% chance so 50% of ten dice is 5 hits and a pen.
5+ is only a 33% chance to hit. One in 3 dice thrown will hit meaning you need 15 shots to get the averages to work out for you.
The 4+ to 5+ jump is 5 dice compared to a jump of 2 dice when going from a 3+ to a 4+.
