Well I've decided to finally pick a real force to base my army off of the Panzer Lehr (hey, I have the "L" dice ;D). If anyone knows any good resources so that I can get a good idea of their numbers and what equipment they had (that will be a lot!) that would help. Ive got a couple from my school work and a few online sources, including one in all german. Mainly though, what force from what Intel briefing would be good to use as a Panzer Lehr force. I'm thinking either a Gepanzerte Panzergrenadierkompanie from FE1 or one of the ones from Villiers-Bocage or Cobra. Possibly even an SS panzergrenadierkompanie as a model? Thoughts?

The Villers book has a Lehr list in it.

An actual Lehr list? I've been told thats just a Gepanzerte Panzergrenadierkompanie and the organizational chart. Also after more research I"m wondering why everyone uses panzergrenadier lists when the germans have it listed as a Panzerkompanie. Is it just a quirk in the way it was formed or the rules?

The panzergren list on page 25 in villers bocage is for lehr. Lehr was a demnstration unit built to show what the 1944 panzer divisions should look like. The Germans never had enough SPW aka halftracks to complete the refit of any other unit. Lehr was the only fully mechnized unit in the German army so you have two choices. geptpanzergrenadier or panzer company. They where also the most lavishly equiped unit with infantry weapons. Just got to page 21 in the VB book and start from there it has the Lehr TOE a small history and then the lists.
As for why they call it a Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier kompanie its because it is. German Panzer divisions in 1944 had 1 Panzer Regiment and 2 Panzergrenadier regiments. So the Gepanzerte Panzergrenadiers would be the mech battatlion of the Panzergrenadier Regiment. Of the 6 Battalions of infantry in a Panzer division only 1 would have halftracks the rest would be in trucks. Lehr was the only unit to mount all of its infantry in halftracks.

I see that now, I actually just went for a second look at the book since your post convinced me I hadn't seen the total list loadout. Bought VB and am looking through it now. The whole panzer division thing had me confused, thanks for clearing it up. Also picked up 2 251/1D and a 251/1C half-track, since I'm sure they would have had some Cs left over in early 1944. I plan to buy some panzer Lehr blisters eventually but was wondering if I could proxy my grenadiers for the time being while I work on knocking out the several halftracks necessary for the list. *edit* Thanks for getting me to give VB another chance, there is everything for Panzer Lehr in here OOB, Painting guide. Good source.

Yeah...proxy away....we don't have any problems as long as the proxy is reasonable.
